the beauty of not knowing: life as a twenty something
by gracie mintz
Sometimes I feel like I'm this average person, surrounded by an above average crowd.
Sometimes I feel like it's not even worth trying because someone is better at it than I am.
Sometimes I feel like a photo of me isn't pretty enough to post online.
I'm terrified of trying new things, or putting myself out there, but is that any way to live? To just stand idly by while you watch those who surround you thrive in the same environment?
Maybe I haven't found my place in the world just quite yet. Is it strange that I'm 21 years old, yet I haven't found a true passion, or ever fallen in love just like my fellow peers have?
Our current technology-infused society allows us to be our own harshest critics because we are constantly aware of what is going on in our friends lives. Unfortunately, we live in a world of competition, but I've recently realized that we are our own competition. A magazine or an Instagram photo should not dictate the "right" way to look or act. Everyone is unique from their personality traits, to the freckles on their cheeks.
I am writing this because it can be difficult to remember that everyone is on their own path, and that there is not a right or wrong one. If you are feeling this way, know that you are not alone. You do you, but be the best you YOU can be. Life is all about finding yourself and being kind and classy while you do it.
Remember that people find their way in their 20's and in their 70's.
